After three visits to an allergist, my test results are positive for many medicals and chemicals. My allergist diagnosed me with toxicant-induced loss of tolerance (TILT) or multiple chemical sensitivity. I’m concerned about my unhealthy teeth and my sensitivity to dental cement, titanium, chromium, and other dental materials. I have a tooth that had a failed root canal and an apicoectomy. The tooth hurts and needs attention. I think that a dentist will probably need to extract it. The other issue is that my bite is causing a lot of jaw pain and headaches. I need orthodontic care, but metal braces are not an option. I’m willing to travel for a dentist who works with patients who have type IV metal allergies. I’ve been looking online for one, but I don’t see my allergy type mentioned on any dentist’s websites. Where do I start? Thank you. Arianna from Kansas

Although you might not find a dentist with training in your specific allergies, you can find a dentist who is willing to provide treatment options that avoid or limit your sensitivities. You can start by calling dental offices and asking if the dentist works with patients with allergies or sensitives. You might even ask if they have existing patients with sensitivities to discern if the dentist has experience in this area.
